2002
The 2002 harvest, marked by abundant summer rains, will be remembered as both atypical and difficult in Montalcino. Fortunately, the Luce vineyards are well drained and did not suffer from the extensive rains. They were not, however, spared from the heavy hailstorms during the second half of August, which damaged an important part of the Sangiovese. The undamaged plants benefited from sunny days and a warm climate during the end of the summer and early autumn. The harvest was carried out in different phases within the same vineyard, depending on the degree of ripeness of the grapes, in order to obtain the exact quality desired. This is a very meticulous process in which the grapes are selected bunch by bunch, allowing only the finest grapes to be brought to the cellar, although in very limited quantity. The total production of Luce 2002 is considerably less than previous years.

Tasting Notes:
The color is an excellent and intense ruby red. The bouquet releases elegant fragrances characteristic thus far in many of the vintages of Luce. The delicate yet distinct fragrances of forest berries and cherries, with underlying hints of cocoa, are complemented by balsamic notes. The entry on the palate is elegant and decisive. The perfectly integrated tannins are in harmony with the alcoholic component and the finish is a delightful crescendo of flavor with a pleasing hint of mineral.

Varietal Composition: 75% Merlot, 25% Sangiovese

Awards: 5 Grappoli - Top Score from the Italian Association of Sommeliers
